AtA Celebration of Courage 2011, we introduced the Paula Ettelbrick Fellows and Interns Fund, named in honor of the International Gay and Lesbian Human Rights Commission 's third Executive Director who guided our ship from 2003 to 2009. On October 7th, 2011, our movement lost a friend, an innovative thinker, LGBT advocate and leader to cancer. But Paula's legacy lives on. Thanks to the generous contributions many of you have made, this summer we welcomefour outstanding young people to our team as the inaugural class ofPaula Ettelbrick Fellows and Interns Fund. Throughout the summerDerek Demeri, Ginette Sims, Pedro Garcia, and Catherine Hoge have worked side by side with IGLHRC staff and mentors, learning by doing, and making valuable contributions to our work while expanding their skills in communications, research, translation, legal and fundraising activities. As the inaugural class of Paula Ettelbrick Fellows and Interns, these four students have had the opportunity to meet with influential activists, including senior members of our staff, to gain a fuller understanding of LGBT Human Rights work- its challenges, strategies for Global Advocacy and vision of a future where human rights for everyone, everywhere is a reality. They have heard directly from human rights defenders whom we partner with in the Caribbean, Middle East, Africa and Asia. Our goal is that being an Ettelbrick Fellow or Intern be a rewarding and unique opportunity; an experience that will have a lasting impact. Won't you join us in honoring Paula Ettelbrick's legacy as we introduce Catherine, Derek, Ginette and Pedro at this year's A Celebration of Courage on July 16th?
